To best-serve America now President Biden should withdraw

President Biden, we the undersigned Americans ask you to please again speak truth to (your and the DNC’s) power, and collaborate on best-fulfilling your Legacy of Democracy by withdrawing from your last Presidential race.

President Biden – And It’s Time To Transition

President Biden provided Americans with a good answer in 2020 for those seeking “anyone but Trump”.  But I started JoeGTG.org and ApplaudDemocracy.org on 6/29/2024, at this precious and fragile moment in our country’s history, because, like many Americans, I believe we can and therefore must have substantially better choices to lead our country than just the now-declared candidates. Even Biden himself (and many others) agree that we could have candidates with lighter and younger baggage, leaders with real opportunities to brighten the star of our democracy, and we astonishingly and wonderfully have an accomplishable procedure available to produce such candidates.

America has already tried the two leading Presidential possibilities, with near-unanimous dissatisfaction with either or both, and with few suggesting that either Biden or Trump are better candidates than they were four years ago.  While I acknowledge that we may be wrong, I and many other Americans believe that the facts and the criticality of the moment mandate immediately, transparently, and vigorously re-exploring alternative candidates within the Democratic Party.  

Even if it were our job (which it is not) to prioritize President Biden’s honor and legacy, a likely better way to do so than re-nomination is to collaborate with President Biden to bridge to another progressive candidate who can inspiringly carry the flame for many years to come.

Dear Mr. President,

We acknowledge our gratitude for your decades of service to our country. But my compatriots and I, signed below and editorializing here all agree with the NY Times’ Editorial Board’s opinion here that your likely best current opportunity for service is to withdraw now from this Presidential race. Even you have provided arguments that you (and Mr. Trump) are both too old to be the best candidates for the next four years.

This is a direction that few before you have had the need or selfless dedication to follow, prioritizing the necessity of defeating a felonious Presidential opponent to help preserve democracy.  We hope you too will soon speak this truth, follow this path, and allow others to now fill your servant-leader footprints.

I do think that the single most damaging way to think about the night is to imagine that people are asking themselves: Do I want a Joe Biden who is three years or four years older than Joe Biden is now serving as president?

President Biden’s surrogates attempted to brush off the debate performance. Aides claimed he had a cold. Vice President Kamala Harris argued the leader of the free world should be evaluated on the totality of his presidency, not one night. Former President Barack Obama took to social media and said, “Bad debate nights happen.” These responses are insulting to the American people.

We the undersigned believe that the beacon of our democracy will shine more brightly if we all understand, loudly reaffirm, and effectively act on obvious facts. We think that our compatriots’ senses of honor and ambition (for both self and country) are likely to produce multiple excellent alternatives preferable to the currently leading candidates for the 2024 US Presidential election. We believe this is the best way to applaud and support our democracy.
